Mindful Practice and MBCP; optimising quality of care, communication and safety in labour management and resilience among birthing staff.

A 5 hour introduction to: ‘Mindful Practice’ program for health care providers and ‘Mindfulness-based Childbirth and Parenting’ (MBCP) for patients., A workshop to improve the quality of care birthing staff provide, while improving their own resilience and well-being.
Relying even on the latest research in neuroscience, cognitive psychology, communication, coping skills and psycho-traumatology. 

Offering an experiential learning environment, with a focus on developing the capacity for attention, communication and self-awareness in stressful and demanding situations. Introducing a tool box of mindful meditation forms, narrative medicine and appreciative inquiry.
Also introducing the MBCP concepts of horticultural time, beginner’s mind, BRANN, and meditative pain management. Concepts that increase teamwork between colleagues and extend the team to include empowered patients. For further reading see references below.

Jointly organised by the European Association of Perinatal Medicine and the European Midwives Association, this congress constitutes a unique opportunity for all healthcare professionals working in the labor ward to meet each other, share their ideas and experiences, and obtain updated information on key aspects of clinical care. The congress is strongly focused on evidence-based practice and aims to promote excellence in all aspects of labor management. It endorses the visions of safe and respected birth, genuine teamwork in the labour ward, and provision of a positive birth experience to all women.

The congress is held within the famous Karolinska Institutet, home of the Nobel prizes and more than 200 years of history in development of the Medical sciences. Stockholm spreads out over 14 islands and is particularly famous for its grand public buildings and palaces, beautifully preserved old town, fine gothic churches, and cosmopolitan city atmosphere. All the conditions will be present for you to enjoy a unique scientific, social and cultural experience

Three international 4 day ‘Mindful Practice’ workshops have been held in Sweden through the Swedish Federation for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SFOG). Mindfulness-based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP)
Mindful Birthing: Training the Mind, Body and Heart for Childbirth and Beyond was published in July 2012 by HarperOne. Dutch, German, Turkish and French editions are now available. Recognition for Mindful Birthing includes: American College of Nurse-Midwives’ Best Book of the Year Award 2014, National, Parenting Publications Award: 2013, Mom’s Choice Award: 2013, Good Science Center’s Top Ten Books: 2012.
